The 40-year-old actor caught a departing flight to New York City out of LAX airport in Los Angeles on Friday. Hugh will be spending Christmas in the Big Apple! He has said, “I’m going to be in New York with my family. I’ll be going to the Nutcracker, I’ll be going to Rockefeller Plaza, I’ll be going to the Rockettes, maybe catch a Knicks game or two…. I’ve just been at home [in Australia] for two years straight, so I’ll be okay. But I actually like the snow. I like the cold – it’s all different, it’s all a novelty to me.”

And if you haven’t heard yet, Hugh will be hosting the Oscars next year!

Former Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman is writing the music. Former magazine editor Kurt Andersen is reportedly working on the script. Hugh has already been working on magic routines and will supposedly replicate big Houdini tricks on stage.

Admittedly, it’s not as fun/quirky as director Baz Luhrmann’s Red Curtain Trilogy (Strictly Ballroom, Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge) and it clocks in at a whopping 2 hours 45 minutes. But for some reason, it didn’t matter! Every scene had a tender moment to dwell on, gorgeous cinematography to stare at or a shirtless Hugh dousing himself with a bucket of water.
