[News] Lee Seo-jin come back after 2 years in 'Gye Baek' MBC new historical drama.

[News] Lee Seo-jin come back after 2 years in 'Gye Baek' MBC new historical drama.
Cr. - javabeans

This should perk up fans of mania drama Damo: Its star Lee Seo-jin and writer Jung Hyung-soo are re-teaming for a new MBC fusion sageuk drama that sheds new light on the life of Baekje-era General 'Gye Baek', which is also the drama’s name.

The project has got “sageuk hit” written all over it: Damo remains one of Lee Seo-jin’s most memorable roles, and he had another hit playing a king in Yi San; its writer went on to pen mega-blockbuster sageuk Jumong; and its PD Kim Geun-hong worked on Dae Jang Geum, Jumong, Dong Yi, Queen Seon-deok, and Yi San. Yeesh. With creds like that, this is a case where it’ll be more shocking if the drama fails than if it shoots to success. No pressure or anything.

This’ll be Lee’s first drama in two years, after shooting the eerie summer horror series Hon. It plans for large-scale shoots in China and is currently casting.

'Gye Baek' is being planned for a 32-episode run and will premiere in July. It’s a Monday-Tuesday show that’ll follow Ripley, which is the show that follows MBC’s fusion sageuk The Duo.

Korean director Park Jung-bum has received another award at an international film festival, making it its ninth win for his film "The Journals of Musan."

“Musan,” both helmed by and starring Park Jung-bum, won the New Directors award at the 54th San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF54) held from April 21 to May 5, winning 15,000 dollars as prize money, as revealed by the official website of the fest today.

“I do wonder whether such overwhelming attention to my film is because it deals with the sensitive subject of a North Korean defector,” Park said in the statement released today by film’s distributor JinJin Pictures. “It’s wonderful to receive an award but I also feel sorry for Seung-chul who passed away and I feel an even greater responsibility to make good films in the future.”

Jeon Seung-chul, a real-life character of the same name whom the movie is based on, used to be a close friend of director Park's who later passed away from cancer.

Park turned his story into a 127-minute film which tells the plight of the North Korean defector trying to adjust to a capitalist society in South Korea which has been well recognized for delving into one of the most controversial issues in Korean Peninsula and is the extended version of director Park’s earlier short film “125 JEON Seung Chul” (2008) that describes the typical day for the same lead character.

"Musan" has already won a slew of accolades at other international film festivals including the New Currents Award and International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Award at the 15th Busan International Film Festival last October, the top prize at the 10th Marrakech International Film Festival held in Morocco in December, the Tiger Award during the 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam in February, the jury prize at the 13th Deauville Asian Film Festival in France in mid- March, the Krakow Film Award at the Off Plus Camera International Festival of Independent Cinema in mid-April and most recently, the award for best new narrative director at the 10th annual Tribeca Film Festival held at New York City of New York in late April.

The film was also selected one of the top ten must-see movies by magazine Time Out New York early this year and premiered in Korea in mid-April.

Han Ye-seul has been charged with a hit-and-run offense. A police officer said CCTV footage shows Han hitting Do's back with the rearview mirror of her car, causing Do to teeter and grab the trunk of the car in front of him.

[NEWS] JYJ donates high proportion of performance earnings to charity.
cr:koreaboo

According to a representative, the members of JYJ own villas worth over 3 billion KRW ($2.7 million USD), as well as exotic sports cars such as Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Maseratis. However, despite their high earnings, they have also tithed a large proportion to charity organizations.

JYJ’s high income comes from pursuing their own interests based on their artist-centered contract they have with their current agency. C-JeS Entertainment bases its income division and beliefs on respecting each individual artist’s interests and talents as well as giving artists the agency’s full support in whichever genre they wish to pursue. This specific system allowed JYJ the opportunity to pursue a variety of interests, such as acting and musicals, and naturally led to high earnings.

JYJ have also become model examples to follow as they give back as much as they earn through their fans’ love. Not only have they donated a portion of their ticket earnings from every performance to an international humanitarian organization, but they have also donated 600 million KRW ($600,000 USD) to Japan to aid in the earthquake and tsunami relief.

The group is also famous for the warm-hearted generosity its members give to their staff. According to a representative who took part in the ‘JYJ World Tour Concert in 2011,′ “They take care of the staff so well, just as if we were members of their family, that it makes me wonder if other stars act the same way. They buy us meals and drinks while we’re working and even pay for everyone when we go out for dinner as a group.”

They have branched out from their original careers as singers and morphed into actors, musical actors, and performance directors. JYJ boasts ‘world class’ generosity, heart, earnings, and efforts to do their best in whatever they are tasked with. Through a world tour that encompasses Thailand, Taiwan, China, Canada, and the US, JYJ plan to solidify their position as Korea’s representative Hallyu artists.

With just days away from their Vancouver concert stop, are you excited for them to tour in Canada and the States?

Will SMTOWN be heading to South America this summer?

It has been revealed that a South American tour with SM Entertainment artists including BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD, SHINee, and f(x) is currently in the works. According to several music industry representatives, SM Entertainment will be continuing their ‘SM Town Live World Tour‘ by heading to South America in July, making stops in Brazil, Chile, among other countries.

The reason for this South American tour is that the popularity of SM Entertainment artists in these countries has been steeply rising. In February, a Brazilian TV network held a survey regarding which Korean artist they would like to have visit their country. The top four spots were claimed by Super Junior, BoA, SNSD, and SHINee, respectively. Also, last November the Korean Cultural Industry Foundation held a survey amongst Brazilian fans regarding popular Korean singers. The results revealed that Super Junior, SHINee, BoA, and SNSD came in at 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th place respectively.

Last month, SM Entertainment announced that they would be heading to France for their ‘SM Town Live in Paris‘ concert on June 10th. As this concert sold out almost immediately after tickets were released, the possibility of adding another day is currently being reviewed.

The ‘SM Town Live World Tour’ has already made stops in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Shanghai. By visiting both Europe and South America, this tour will become a legitimate world tour.

[News] Jang Keun-suk makes record debut on Oricon chart.
Cr. - http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/

Actor-singer Jang Keun-suk made a record debut on Japan's Oricon Chart, ranking No. 1 during the first week of his single's release. It is the first time a non-Japanese artist has topped the comprehensive music chart in an opening week.

According to Oricon, Jang's single "Let Me Cry", which was released on April 27, has sold 119,000 copies during its first week of sales. The last time a male solo artist debuted at No. 1 on the Oricon chart was over 30 years ago, by Mashihiko Gondo, in December 1980. No foreign artist, neither a solo singer nor a band, has ever achieved such sales, the chart's newsletter said Tuesday.

The best previous record among non-Japanese artists is when another Korean signer, Ryoo Si-won, made a No. 2 debut with his first Japanese single "Sakura", in April 2005.

Jang's ranking was followed by K-pop band Girls' Generation's third Japanese single "Mr. Taxi/Run Devil Run". Having sold 100,000 copies, the single marks the best turnout for the band since its debut in the neighboring country last September.

The last time Korean singers topped the singles chart was in October 2008, when TVXQ's "Mirotic" and Lee Byeong-Heon's debut recording "Itsuka" ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

Jang is currently appearing as a model for Korean advertisements in Japan, including a "makgeolli" (rice wine) brand and a line of cosmetics. His popular TV drama, "Marry Me, Mary!" co-starring Moon Geun-yeong, is due to air on TBS in Japan beginning May 20.

Hallyu Star Lee Min Ho fought against twelve men for a scene in his upcoming drama "City Hunter." In early April, he shot a muddy fight sequence, and photos of the shoot have been released.

Lee currently plays the role of an MIT graduate scholar/doctor, ‘Lee Yun Sung’. Despite the harsh, cold weather where he was filming, the actor braved through it all as he fought against 12 guys for an action-packed martial arts scene.

For his role, Lee Min Ho has been practicing and learning martial arts consistently for the past few months from Kali Arnis, the same man who taught Won Bin for “The Man From Nowhere.”

Representatives of the drama said, “In this cold weather, Lee Min Ho pulled through filming this action scene with his passion and energy. You can really feel ‘City Hunter’ from Lee Min Ho’s more masculine and mature image. Please look forward to the new drama.”

Lee Min Ho received formal martial arts training for several months. He practiced Arnis and Kali, a class of Filipino martial arts that emphasize weapon-based fighting. Many Korean fans became aware of Arnis and Kali through 2010's blockbuster movie "Ajusshi" starring Won Bin.

Meanwhile, the new SBS drama 'City Hunter' is a drama originally based on Tsukasa Hojo's worldwide hit manga, which especially attracts a worldwide attention because it's being produced as a TV drama series for the first time.

Lee Min Ho is acting the role of 'Lee Yoon Sung', who works at the Blue House's National Communication Network Team and received his Ph.D at M.I.T. He is putting his best effort and passion to his comeback drama after a year of break. Until now, he showed a soft image from 'Boys over Flowers' and 'Personal Taste', but this time he will demonstrate the more mature and strong Real man's image.

“City Hunter” first episode will be air on 25th May 2011.

GTV confirmed the news today in a small press conference, and trotted out lead actors Gu Hye Sun and, no surprise here, Jiro Wang.

GTV are still furious at Wu Zun, and showered praise upon praise for Jiro’s loyalty and willingness to accept the project on such short notice. Both Jiro and Hye Sun discussed how they were confident that the scripts were excellent and believe in the quality of this drama.

The second leads for AD are supposedly Penny Xie (Xie Kun Da) of the boyband Energy and Cherry Hsia. As for Wu Zun dropping out, people drop of acting projects on a regular basis, It’s not like he dropped AD to do another drama anytime soon.

However, Wu Zun drop AD pretty much means he burned his bridges with GTV and the producer of AD, who really helped vault Zun to stardom by casting him in his drama productions of Tokyo Juliet, Romantic Princess, and TW-HanaKimi.
